The A+ Community Partner Award was created in 2009 to recognize those members of the Hampton Roads community who have forged meaningful partnerships within our schools here in Norfolk. To recognize the various forms of relationships established between school and community; six categories have been identified. They are Rookie Achievement Award, Innovative Award, and Collaborative Award, tutoring Award, Mentoring Award, and Summa Cum Laude Award.
Categories and definitions:
Rookie Achievement Award – This award is given to a new partnership that has exhibited exemplary achievement in one or more of the other award categories.
Innovative Award – This award recognizes a partnership that utilizes an “out of the box” concept that greatly impacts student achievement and significantly helps the school to achieve its goal and objectives.
The Collaborative Award – This award recognizes a partnership that involves multiple businesses and/or organizations that work together as a unit to provide resources to the school’s students, staff and/or parents.
Tutoring Award – This award recognizes a partnership that consistently provides volunteers to tutor students individually or in small groups for the purposes of reinforcing classroom instruction and improving academic achievement.
Mentoring Award – This award category recognizes a partnership that develops one-to-one relationship between student and an adult that fosters a caring, supportive environment which emphasizes the individual needs of the students.
Summa Cum Laude Award – This coveted award is designed to recognize a partnership that has been in existence for 5 years or more and has demonstrated school-wide impact, commitment and sustainability as the cornerstone of it’s Partnership.
