NEF HOSTS 10TH ANNIVERSARY AND DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS GALA

The Norfolk Education Foundation's (NEF) 10th Anniversary and Distinguished Alumni Awards event was a huge success as they honored eight NPS alumni for their contributions in academics, politics, sports, law and real estate. The 2016 Distinguished Alumni are as follows: Hon. Alveta V. Green, Kam Chancellor, Kim P. Georges, Leonard E. Parson, Hon. Wilhelmina M. Wright, Dr. Noëlle M. Gabriel, Bruce Smith and the Hon. Daun S. Hester.

Torrion Espree, a Norview High School senior and School Board student representative, did an outstanding job as the master of ceremonies, along with Norview High School senior Jack Whitelaw, who sang the National Anthem to kick off the evening gala.

The “O” Band and NPS’ Strolling Silver Strings provided musical entertainment while guests dined and participated in an online auction to benefit the NEF.  Carla Howard, NEF board member and 2016 Gala Chair, thanked corporate sponsors from Hampton Roads Ventures, RRMM Architects, Elizabeth River Crossing, Virginia. Natural Gas, and Electronic Systems, Inc. for their support of this event.

NEF Executive Director Carlos Clanton shared that this will be the last TIE awards event, but there will be an even greater way to honor the alumni and other NEF initiatives through a weekend celebration that will garner much more support from business and community partners.

Upcoming initiatives the NEF is embarking upon is the revitalization NPS’ Camp Young facilities and providing continued support of the Norfolk Council of PTAs through the J. Frank Sellew Scholarship fund for five high school seniors.
